Painterly Woodcut Evening Course with new visiting tutor Sarah Morris

Begins Monday 3rd June, continues on Monday 10th June and Monday 17th June

6:30 - 9pm

This brand new workshop will be a painterly and experimental approach to woodcuts and Lino. Be prepared to break the rules using texture, collage and monoprinting on your woodcut or lino. We will be using multi blocks and the reduction method and will be printing by hand. This enables you to be in control of the areas printed and by keeping the editions small allows for a more spontaneous approach. The use of colour will be a very important part of this workshop and hopefully you’ll come away with a greater understanding and knowledge of how colours work alongside each other and how they change once overlayed .

All you need is an idea and we will work with the various techniques to achieve it. Sarah says, ‘I love people to develop their own ideas to create personal pieces of art. I teach to individual needs as opposed to the whole group working on the same technique.’

About the Tutor:

Sarah Morris

Foundation - West Surrey College of Art and Design

BA (Hons) - Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic- where I specialised in Printmaking for the 3 years.

MA Printmaking - The Royal College of Art - 2 years

I have been a practicing printmaker and taught printmaking for over 30 years. I specialise in woodcuts all of which are printed by hand, resulting in very small unique editions. Colour is an integral part of my work, inspired by our local landscape of the moors and sea.(I will forward a couple of images of recent woodcuts).
I have taught all forms of printmaking at all levels in a wide range of educational environments, from Primary schools, Secondary schools, Universities, Specialist schools, Psychiatric ward and within the Community.

I currently run Relief Printmaking classes locally for adults.

Who is this course for?

Experienced printmakers will enjoy extending and pushing the boundaries of their printmaking knowledge . Equally those new to this medium can participate and enjoy the workshop.

Due to the nature of the tools used and the process of printmaking this workshop is only suitable for adults - advanced , intermediate and beginners. Some knowledge of printmaking would be useful.
