Linocut Weekend: Unleash Your Creativity

On this two-day course you will explore the ever popular and versatile print medium of linocutting. Covering all aspects of the medium from image composition, carving and registration to the subtleties of inking. Led by talented local printmaker Jeremy Speck, this course is suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers seeking to expand their knowledge!
Getting Started:
On day one we will look at the materials and techniques in preparing and cutting lino, the Tutor will then discuss individually how your image and ideas can be translated into a linocut before you start cutting your plate (or plates), thinking in terms of blocks of shapes rather than a drawn line.
Getting Stuck In:
Day two will mostly be taken up with printing your plate and learning how to offset your key-block image back onto new lino for multiplate printing. During this process you will also discover how manipulating inks and the different papers can affect your image.
Materials and Equipment:
General shared tools and equipment are provided on the course.
Having your own craft knife and drawing kit can be an advantage.
There are a range printing papers available, however you are also welcome to bring in some additional material if you wish.
The materials that you will be requested to pay for is the lino, paper and a £2 donation for the ink, usually between £4-8 in total depending on how you wish to work.
