The History of Buller Square

Printmakers from Double Elephant have been involved in a Heritage Lottery Funded print and writing project based in Crediton. The focus of the project was historic Buller Square – containing the oldest dwellings in Crediton that were severely damaged by fire in February 2012. We ran a series of printmaking workshops in Crediton Arts Centre and also offered writing with local film maker and author Elspeth Penny. The project included visits to the fire damaged square, the Devon Heritage Centre and Downes House. The project generated support for the people whose houses were destroyed and several of the art works were very emotionally moving. There was an exhibition of work and readings at Crediton Fire Station attended by the Chief Fire Officer and the High Sheriff of Devon. The exhibition continues at Crediton Museum.
