Musgrove Park Hospital

In 2014, Simon Ripley began working with Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, on an NHS project called ““Art for Life”:”. During his residency there Simon worked with elderly patients at the hospital to transform the corridors of both the Eliot and Fielding Wards, and the walls of its new quiet room with a series of prints. The layered images of butterflies and moths reference a poem by T.S. Eliot: “If time and space as sages say are things which cannot be…”

When Musgrove Park opened their redeveloped entrance to the Fielding Ward in 2016, Simon returned to the hospital with a print designed in continuity with the previous theme. Making a photoscreen from plants, and paper cut butterfly stencils, the new welcome sign hangs in the reception area and marks the finishing touch to a project he has seen through from start to finish on the ward.
