  • Wet Ink on Wet Ink

    Friday 1st June, 10am - 4pm .

A painterly approach to relief print with Simon Ripley.
This workshop will demonstrate an approach to lino and mdf monoprinting on Japanese papers that is typical of prints made by DEPW director Simon Ripley. Course participants will be introduced to a free and spontaneous way of making linocuts that sweep away many of the conventions of traditional relief printing. The prints are predominantly monotypes but multiples and variants can be made. We will be printing by hand onto Japanese paper and cutting into lino and MDF – which can be physically demanding.
An essential part of the process is that wet ink is printed directly on to previous layers of wet ink on the paper and so a rich patina and uneven coloured surface is produced…. “happy accidents” are key through an intuitive and generally abstract approach.
